DSA Sets Goals to Strengthen the PhD Experience at KI
The Doctoral Students’ Association (DSA) represents all 2,200 doctoral students at Karolinska Institutet (KI), playing a central role in enhancing the PhD journey. The association focuses on three key areas: providing information and guidance, strengthening student representation, and fostering a connected and supportive community.
Meet the 2026 Board
2026 promises to be an exciting year for our community. We are thrilled to introduce this year’s board – including our new female chairperson! 🥳
DSA’s central goal is to establish a strong network of doctoral student representatives across all 21 departments, doctoral programmes, and research schools, ensuring that students have accessible support and representation at every level.
This year we will also focus our efforts to better understand the challenges of a clinical PhD at KI and to identify ways to provide tailored support. At the same time, the association plans to deepen collaboration with KI leadership, ombudspersons, and trade unions to address critical issues such as discrimination, harassment, and the overall work environment.
Combating Isolation: The PhD Connect Program
Recognizing that research can sometimes feel isolating, DSA have introduced the new PhD Connect program this year. The program aims to create networks of students based on shared interests and hobbies, helping students feel more connected and supported by peers.
Save the Date: PhD Conference 2026
A highlight of the year will be the PhD Conference on May 18-19, 2026. The conference will emphasize transferable skills developed during doctoral training and explore how these skills can support careers both within and beyond academia.
