Meet the blogger – Alana
Hey, all! My name is Alana Castro Panzenhagen (the pronunciation is up to you!). I’ve been a postdoctoral researcher at KI for one year now. My PhD was in biochemistry, but please don’t ask me about any metabolic pathways. I would describe myself as a computational biologist. I analyse data of all sorts: clinical, omics, neuroÂimaging (proof in photo below🙃) … and I’m currently working with mRNA translation.

I’m extremely passionate about F1, Star Trek, and coffee — that’s where most of my money goes anyway. I’m also into writing and hiking (especially in Brazil; check out a stunning view at the end).
Now this next bit tells loads about myself and my complete lack of regard for well-being: In 2022, I embarked on the ever-lasting struggle and lunacy of trying to learn the violin as an adult, by myself, without having (or taking) the time for it. – I should have learnt by now. There are things a PhD doesn’t teach you. Who’d figure!?
Anyways, I’m here because I want to spread my research to a broader audience and share my career experience. I’m from Brazil, and I did part of my PhD in Germany. Navigating cultures is as much an amazing experience as it is a challenging task! So maybe I’ll be writing about that too. But, obviously, I’m mostly here to connect with people like you! Please follow on IG or LinkedIn🙂
Until we meet again,
Alana
